This canvas is a take off of the 'Keep Calm and Carry On' poster which was produced by the British government in 1939 during the beginning of World War II, intended to strengthen the morale of the British public under the threat of impending invasion and in the event of a wartime disaster.
Two-and-a-half million copies were printed, although the poster was distributed only in limited numbers. It was little known and never used.
Since the poster was rediscovered in 2000 and has now become a collectible item.
With Christchurch showing such a strong morale in the event of the earthquake disaster it seemed a well suited choice. Maybe one day this design too will make history!
